Arrest Records in Boone County
An arrest creates several related records in Boone County. The officer’s agency writes the arrest report and incident narrative. The Boone County Adult Detention Facility records intake, fingerprints, property, charges, holds, bond, and custody status. Reportable fingerprints and events move to the Missouri State Highway Patrol Central Repository. If the prosecutor files a case, the Boone County Circuit Clerk opens a judicial file. These records overlap, but none is a full substitute for the others.
The agency list is broad because Columbia is both the county seat and a major campus city. Boone County Sheriff, Columbia Police, Ashland Police, Hallsville Police, Centralia Police, University of Missouri Police, and Missouri State Highway Patrol personnel can create the first report. Municipal arrestees generally enter the Boone County jail system, so a city police report and a county booking can describe the same incident while remaining with different custodians.
Boone County Daily Arrest Reports
The official Boone County public report menu is the fastest official route for daily arrests and current detainees. It uses report choices, date fields, output options, and a run control rather than a permanent page for each person. Generated links can contain changing query parameters. Bookmark the menu, not an individual output.
A capture from the official Boone County report menu avoids reproducing any arrestee’s name or photograph. It presents an entry point to current Boone County operational reports rather than a complete lifetime arrest history.
Use the output to capture the booking number, arresting agency, charge text, bond, and custody status needed for a focused follow-up request.
Boone County Arrest Lookups
No single Boone County arrest lookup contains the arrest narrative, current custody, filed court charges, and statewide repository history. Start with the recent-custody channel, then follow the Boone County record to its creator. A name alone is weak proof, especially when the person has a common name. Match dates, agency, booking number, and case number before treating two entries as the same event.
- Identify the arresting agency and approximate date. This determines which office owns the report narrative.
- Run the Boone County daily arrest or current-detainee report, then call the jail at 573-875-1111 when the output is unclear or the person may have been released or transferred.
- Request the arrest or incident report from the creating agency. Use the sheriff’s targeted online request for BCSO material or the city’s records channel for a municipal arrest.
- Search Missouri Case.net after charging. Filing can lag booking, and the prosecutor’s charge may differ from the intake charge.
- Use MACHS Name Search for Missouri’s public statewide open-record view, or follow the official MSHP record-check instructions for an identity-confirmed review of one’s own record.
- Send a focused Missouri Sunshine Law request when the online reports no longer show the event or a narrative, dispatch record, or other agency-held document is needed.
For state imprisonment or supervision rather than county detention, use the Missouri DOC Offender Search. The department's Sunshine Law records page covers requests for state corrections material beyond the locator. Neither route replaces the Boone jail report for a local pretrial detainee.
Boone County Arrest Agency Split
A Columbia arrest can leave Boone County records at three offices. Columbia Police may hold the report and narrative. Boone County detention holds the booking and current-custody record. The Circuit Clerk holds the case if the prosecutor files. Ashland, Centralia, Hallsville, campus police, and highway patrol arrests follow the same creator-first rule even though detention is centralized at the Boone County facility.
| Arresting agency | Official records route | County follow-up |
|---|---|---|
| Boone County Sheriff | Targeted sheriff request or public reports; 573-875-1111 | County jail for custody and booking |
| Columbia Police | City NextRequest or Information Center at 600 E. Walnut | County jail, then Circuit Clerk if charged |
| Ashland Police | APD Records, 573-657-9062, weekdays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. | County jail for booking |
| Centralia Police | 114 S. Rollins; 573-682-2139; official report route | County jail for a Boone booking |
| University police or Highway Patrol | Request from the agency custodian that created the report | County jail and court channels when applicable |
Ask the correct office for the correct layer. A Boone County booking specialist cannot supply a city officer’s full investigative narrative merely because the person entered the county jail.
Arrest Records: What They Contain
A Boone County arrest report centers on what the officer did and observed. A booking entry centers on intake and custody. Boone County public reports may expose enough information to identify the event, but protected details, victim information, medical or classification data, and active investigative work may be withheld or redacted. An official booking photograph may exist in the agency record; no photograph or named arrestee is republished here.
| Subject identity | The reported name, aliases, age, and public physical descriptors used to distinguish the booking |
|---|---|
| Booking number | The jail’s event identifier for intake, custody, and release tracking |
| Date, time, and place | When and where the arrest occurred and when detention intake began |
| Arresting agency | The sheriff, city police, campus police, or state agency that created the arrest report |
| Alleged charges | The intake offense labels, statutes, and warrant or case references available at booking |
| Bond and holds | The listed amount or type and any other custody hold, subject to later court action |
| Custody outcome | Current detention, release information, or transfer status shown by the report |
The arrest report can also include the factual basis, involved officer, transport, property, evidence, and force details where applicable.
Inside Boone County Jail Intake
At County Drive, detention staff identify the person, inventory property, screen medical and mental-health needs, photograph and fingerprint, enter charges and holds, and assign a housing classification. The person then moves toward an initial judicial appearance and a bond decision. A prosecutor may amend or reject the intake charge. Release depends on the court order, bond or sentence, and clearance of all holds.
Custody flow: Arrest › Transport › Identification › Booking › Screening › Initial Appearance › Bond or Continued Custody
The Boone County Sheriff reports roughly 6,000 bookings each year. The jail’s LiveScan connection has sent fingerprints to the MSHP repository since 2001, while digital photos have been linked to jail documents since 1994. Those dates explain why an older paper-era arrest may leave a different digital trail than a recent booking.
Note: Intake charge wording can change after the prosecutor reviews the facts and files a court case.
Recent Boone County Bookings
A current detainee list is a snapshot. It can show booking identity, intake time, arresting agency, charge description, case or warrant reference, bond, custody status, and release information. It does not show every prior arrest in Boone County. Once a person is released or transferred, the live report may no longer be the best route to the historic booking record.
The official detention information traces the current Boone County jail to 1991. It began with 134 custody beds and 50 work-release beds, then conversions raised total capacity to 210. Its physical maximum is 246, but the sheriff reports that operating capacity is often 210 to 220 because gender and custody classifications keep some beds from being used at the same time. That local limit helps explain why a transfer or release can change the live detainee report even though the original booking record remains with the county.
Call the Boone County Adult Detention Facility at 573-875-1111 if a report is unclear. For an older event, ask BCSO Records for a targeted booking sheet or arrest record under the Sunshine Law. If the arrest came from a city department, request its narrative from that city while using the county request only for booking and jail material.

Requesting Boone County Arrest Narratives
The sheriff’s online record-request form provides a structured path for BCSO-created material. The sheriff's records information page supplies the office route behind that form. It asks for requester contact details, a case type, comments, an incident date or range, location, names, officer, incident number, and email. It requires a personal or agency name, an email address, and an incident date or range. BCSO also accepts an in-person or phone inquiry through Records at extension 6128.
Describe each item sought. An arrest report, incident report, booking sheet, dispatch record, 911 audio, and body-camera file are not one document. Boone County Joint Communications, not sheriff records specialists, holds 911 audio and CAD material. Under Missouri Sunshine Law Chapter 610, the agency may charge actual copy costs and staff research time, estimate material charges, and require prepayment. The law calls for action as soon as possible and no later than the end of the third business day, or a written explanation with the earliest availability date.
Missouri’s Thirty-Day Arrest Rule
Missouri’s public repository product treats recent and older arrest events differently. MSHP says an arrest under 30 days old is open in the MACHS name product. A prosecutor-filed charge awaiting disposition also remains open. When an arrest is more than 30 days old and no charge was filed, or when the case ended through nolle prosequi, dismissal, or acquittal, that event may become closed in the repository product.
Closure in MACHS does not mean every source record vanished. The originating agency and court apply their own access rules. Juvenile arrests are restricted, and an expungement order can add another layer of limits. The official MACHS FAQ explains repository coverage, updates, and the challenge route. When reviewing one’s own record, compare the court disposition with an identity-confirmed state response. If the state record remains wrong after the court acts, use the MSHP CJIS challenge process and supply the supporting court document.
Arrest Records vs Conviction Records
An arrest record proves that an agency took a person into custody or recorded an arrest event. It does not prove that a prosecutor filed the same allegation or that a court found guilt. A conviction comes from a judgment after a plea or trial. The two records are also kept by different offices and can end on different dates.
| Point | Arrest record | Conviction record |
|---|---|---|
| Creator | Arresting agency and Boone detention | Circuit or municipal court |
| Meaning | Custody or arrest occurred on an allegation | A court entered a judgment of guilt |
| Main source | Agency report, booking system, jail record | Case.net and the Circuit Clerk’s official file |
| Possible ending | Release, no filing, or transfer | Sentence, appeal, or later restricted access |
| Charge wording | Probable-cause or intake label | Charge as filed and final count outcome |
A filed case should be read count by count through the Boone County court case lookup, because dismissed and guilty counts can coexist.
Note: An arrest is not proof of guilt, and many bookings never result in a conviction.
